Jonathan Hickman back at Marvel for a mysterious project with Valerio Schiti

The last remnants of San Diego Comic Con make their way to the end of the news assembly line. Between the announcements of adaptations, the chronological friezes and the logos of Marvel Studios, we would tend to forget that the Maison des Idées had also moved there, with some nice surprises (and very ugly, so as not to upset the karmic balance). In particular, the return (already considered) by Jonathan Hickman for an original project, in the company of designer Valerio Schiti. This was mentioned during Marvel Comics’ Next Big Thing panel, an SDCC tradition that reappeared for the occasion.

Hickman’s Sandman

Sparse in detail, the screenwriter only explained that it would be a kind of equivalent of Neil Gaiman’s Sandman in the ranks of the House of Ideas. A draft presentation that does not advance us much, but the guy promises that everything will be clear once the first issue is made available. The series should answer the question “what happens when an almighty power collides with the natural order of things?”. Figure it out. And it will be noted.

After having already collaborated with Valerio Schiti, on the occasion of the SWORD series on the Reign of X period (with Al Ewing on the screenplay) but especially during the conclusion of his general work on the X-Men, Inferno, Jonathan Hickman finds the designer for an ambitious title, at least in appearance. He would have had the idea for this project for a long time, and would have started developing the project three years ago, taking a little head start on his resignation from the post of chief screenwriter on the mutant family.

Marvel publishes the essential teaser usual to mark the occasion, hoping not to have to wait too long to learn more about this mysterious new series. As a reminder, Jonathan Hickman has occupied most of his time on the concepts of the Three Worlds Three Moons (3W3M) universe for some last year, to the point of having poached his editor at Marvel, Stephen Wackerto help oversee this small saga developed independently via the Substack platform.
