Marvel announces Wakanda, mini-series dedicated to characters from the Black Panther universe

With the output from the movie Black Panther: Wakanda Forever next fall, it would be quite normal to see Marvel resume its usual strategy of cross-marketing, so that the same license can take advantage of the mainstream attention brought by the cinema so that it can also benefit from it in the shelves of comic shops. Since Black Panther has an ongoing series regular (by John Ridley IV)it is therefore up to the other heroes and villains of this universe to have the right to their exhibition on paper, with the Wakanda mini-series.

With Shuri, Killmonger and company

Under a very simple title, Wakanda is a five-issue mini-series that will take care of telling stories about the other characters specific to the Black Panther universe, such as Shuri or Killmonger, each issue being dedicated to a character in a way distinct. The first issue will be written by Stephanie Williams (Nubia & The Amazons) with art by Paco Medina (Deadpool, Nova), and will focus on Shuri, in a story that takes place in continuity with the current run of John Ridley IV. T’Challa having been exiled outside Wakanda, it is up to his little sister to take matters into his own hands, enough to remember that she was once the Black Panther (although it has been whispered for many months that this will also be the case for the Marvel Studios film).

In addition to each main story, all five issues of Wakanda will be entitled to one backup by Evan Narcissus (Rise of the Black Panther) and Natacha Bustos (Moon Girl & Devil Dinosaur) entitled “History of the Black Panthers” and who, as its title suggests, will return to the long line of wearers of the defender of Wakanda costume. Wakanda #1 will be released on October 12, 2022, with a main cover by Mateus Manhanini, a variant cover by Nic Klein, and another by Stanley “Artgerm” Lau.
