This is a project whose existence could hardly have been forgotten, as its topicality had become discreet. With filming completed fall 2020, it will have been necessary to wait more than a year and a half to hear again about Samaritan, a superhero film which sees Sylvester Stallone (Guardians of the Galaxy, Expendables) occupy the leading role. A first poster and images reach us today, while we also know that the film will not be entitled to a cinema release.

It is indeed on Prime Video (since Amazon has swallowed up MGM, which was in charge of the film’s production at the start) that Samaritan will be released at the end of the summer, right in time to get busy with superheroes. before the start of the school year – and more than three years after its initial announcement. The film is directed by Julius Avery (to whom we owe the infamous Overlord, among others).
Brief screenplay reminder: Samaritan takes place in the city of Granite City in which a young child a little apart, Sam Cleary (Javon Walton) is convinced that his neighbor, aging and taciturn, is none other than a former superhero , the most famous of its category, the Samaritan. The latter disappeared 25 years ago now, and everyone thinks he perished in a fire against his opponent Nemesis. While Granite City is increasingly vitiated by crime and corruption, young Sam will tempt his neighbor, Mr. Smith (and therefore, Sylvester Stallone) to return to service. In sum, a vibes à la Dark Knight Returns but a project that seems more mainstream and family-compatible.
The first poster of Samaritan shows in the reflection what this hero is supposed to be in costume, while the first images of the film show us the hero saving a kid (Sam?) who is being heckled by others, the duo of main characters, but also Mr. Smith facing an opponent with a large mass – assuming that the situation turns out badly for the latter. The film is scheduled for August 26, 2022 on Prime Video, and a first trailer should be arriving soon.
