Deadpool 3 hires art director Raymond Chan (Avengers: Infinity War)

After a slow gestation, production on Deadpool 3 seems to have gotten underway in earnest. Following the hiring of director Shawn Levy, a regular at Ryan Reynolds’ cinema, the project hires artistic director Raymond Chan. Specialized in superhero cinema, he had the opportunity to get his hands on a whole host of commissioned projects at Marvel Studios: Avengers: Infinity War, Doctor Strange, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 1, and Thor: The Dark World. In short, an employee on a permanent contract.

Return of Merc’

Note all the same a broader spectrum of skills: Raymond (or “Ray”) Chan also had the opportunity to collaborate with great directors, such as his performance on the films Les Fils de l’Homme (Alfonso Cuaron) or Robin Hood (Ridley Scott). His work on the next adventure of the talkative mercenary in the cinema should however be part of a stricter framework: that of Marvel Studios productions, since Kevin Feige will supervise this third adaptation of the character of Deadpool, while leaving Reynolds a certain freedom. The hiring of Chan works in this new relationship forged between the franchise and the Disney tube factory, with the arrival of technical staff accustomed to the MCU methodology.

The differentiating criterion should be played on the tone of the project, authorized to pass between the meshes of the usual classification in PG-13 to authorize more graphic violence and a language proportional to the first two Deadpool films. The announcement coincides with the start of a massive recruitment of technicians now that the director has been chosen. We should therefore hear more about the project in the coming weeks, with possible new faces to be announced on the distribution side.

Deadpool 3 has not yet had an official release date.
