Spider-Man: No Way Home will be re-released in cinemas in long version for September 2022

After having tried a re-release in the cinema to surf (unnecessarily) on a wave of memes with Morbius, Sony Pictures will try once again to exercise, with one nuance: that of using a film that worked at the box office, and not just a little. In September, for the United States (and other countries to be announced later), a long version of Spider-Man: No Way Home will indeed go to dark rooms to be (re)discovered.

Forcing, allegory

Entitled Spider-Man: No Way Home – The More Fun Stuff Version, this extended version of the film will therefore include extended scenes of Spider-Man (or Spider-Men, rather?) as well as additional scenes, for an announced total of fifteen minutes more for a film that already lasted 2h28 – and will therefore push the 2h43 now. A version that could simply have been offered in the traditional way for the Blu-Ray / DVD release but, Sony Pictures and its greed being quite notorious, and since 2022 is the year of the sixtieth anniversary of Spider-Man, it was necessary to mark the shot.

Uncertain bet nevertheless for the studio: although no one doubts the popularity of Spider-Man: No Way Home, it is not certain that the public will pay a full price cinema ticket for fifteen minutes of additional content – d more depending on the nature of said content. Sony Pictures plays the risk: the promise indeed focuses on the three Spider-Man present in the film (Tom Holland, Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire), very explicitly in the announcement video of this More Fun Stuff Version, and there is therefore no point in these fifteen minutes focusing on deleted scenes unrelated to the three actors.
